Rare carved ebony and ox bone drummer figure from Ghana depicting a figure playing the bongos/drums.
This has 1950’s historical/political interest with a plaque attached that is engraved ‘WITH THE COMPLIMENTS OF OSAGYEFO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA’.
Measurements are approx 21cm tall (8in), the base has a diameter of 14cm (5.5in).
Overall condition excellent.
Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah guided Ghana to independence. He was the first president of Ghana and, as the father of Pan-Africanism, has influenced the politics of a whole continent. In Ghana itself, no political figurehead would win an election without incorporating “Nkrumahism” into his manifesto.
